Diving into social issues and public awareness: We spoke to Nicole to find out more about her impressive work and background

Nicole is a Social Scientist and she is currently working for the Library Without Borders NGO. LWB deals with the most vulnerable populations by giving them access to education, information and culture. LWB is based in France whereas Nicole is working in Athens as a program manager for several actions aimed for refugees in Greece.

She got her degree in Boston in the field of Environmental Sciences and International Relations. She also holds a master in Human Rights from the University of Sydney in Australia. During her studies in the US she worked in a law office in the environmental department.  She assisted in cases concerning environmental issues and learned a lot about how someone could handle such cases. She was also present to legal affairs in court and helped with the bureaucracy. While she was a master student in Sri Lanka she worked in the organization CPA (Central Policy Alternatives) and did a research about social issues and specifically how people with HIV’s virus live in the society and the racism they face. She traveled all over the country and she wrote down her findings that were published later by CPA.

She has also volunteered for many causes. She participated in the organization Invisible Children. The main goal of this organization is to make people aware for the civil war of Uganda and stop the Lords Resistance Army of Joseph Kony. She worked there with child soldiers and she tried to raise awareness and communicate with them. Furthermore, she worked in an orphanage at Gana and she increased public awareness for sickness of malaria and taught English to little children.

It’s a pleasure to cowork with Nicole and we would like to give her a warm welcome to the Stone Soup family.

Welcoming SELIA, a French company producing infographic documentaries.

We would like to warmly welcome Ludovic! A creative media artist from France currently based here at Stone Soup.

Ludovic is working on a project producing 10 to 15 min documentaries about fine arts using infographics. The subject of every documentary is about one painting of modern art chosen by the customer. The idea is very interesting and the results are amazing but there is a whole process that needs to be followed in order to complete a documentary. Ludovic works from the original texts to scripts, starting with a search for the appropriate pictures and editing, then he has to record the voice text, clear the sound, put together the pictures with the sound and add music and video effects. “The idea behind using infographics is that we’re not using live video footage to make the documentaries but animation of still images. An example of what I’m talking about is the Ken Burns effect, a type of panning and zooming effect used in video production from still imagery”. The technologies and tools he uses vary, so there is still some self-learning process while making each actual video documentary.

The overall idea of producing a set of documentaries was in the mind of the customer for at least 3 years but the project seemed too expensive to be budgeted. Ludovic started working on the project on his free time to help with discussions with possible contractors, but after a while it became clear that he was the right man for the job. So in the end of June 2016 he founded his own company, called “SELIA”, an online content provider company and he’s been working on the project ever since.

Mini Makers Faire, Athens 2016

The mini makers faire is coming to Athens

On the 1st and 2nd of October, the first Mini Makers Faire in Athens will be held at the Exhibition Centre of Peristeri, from 10am to 8pm.

The Maker Faire started in California ten years ago. Since then, the Maker Fair has expanded to more than 120 cities all over the world. It is supported by MAKE the biggest magazine about making.
